Memento Mori

Silkworms (Bombyx mori) have been domesticated by humans for thousands of years to produce silk.  Since they have been bred to be easy to farm, silkworms will never venture far from their food source, the leaves of the mulberry tree.  In this piece, they lived their life cycles on display in a gallery atop an overhead projector to create a metamorphic lantern.   Free Range Gallery, the site of the MYRIAD exhibition, is adjacent to a suburb that used to be a mulberry plantation for the farming of silkworms.
